A national consultation on maternal health was organized by Common Health, NAMHHR , Jan Swasthya Abhiyan, Sama, CEHAT, SOCHARA and SAHAJ in Delhi on 12-13 August 2013. This was a follow up on the national level workshop, Dead Women Talking, in 2012, which focused on the need to draw political attention to maternal health.The national consultation initiated a policy dialogue to provide recommendations on maternal health policy and programmes. Dr. Syeda Hameed, Member, Planning Commission and Mr. Keshav Desiraju, Health Secretary, MoHFW, attended this consultation and responded to the issues flagged by the various public health and civil society organisations on maternal health initiatives and issues. Along with this, deliberations on possible policy level interventions, linkages and follow up initiatives and efforts were also conducted.
